Choosing The Right Hearing Aid

There are many factors that go into choosing the right hearing aid. For instance, the type of hearing loss you have, the size of your ear and the shape of your outer ear can all play a role in determining the right hearing aid for you. Certain conditions such as excess ear drainage and other things like cosmetic appeal may also help determine what hearing aid is best for you.

Other Considerations:

  • Choose a hearing aid that blends with your skin tone.
  • Smaller hearing aids have smaller batteries, may not last long and may be difficult to place if you have poor sight and motor skill issues.
  • Check for warranty on your hearing aid and the hearing aid battery. You should also find out whether or not the manufacturer provides a replacement while your hearing aid is being repaired.
  • See if your health insurance covers the cost of a hearing aid.
  • Find out whether or not the manufacturer offers a trial period on their hearing aids so you can test it before being locked into buying it.
  • Check on where repair centers are for your hearing aid, so you know whether or not it is convenient should it need servicing.

Make sure the hearing aid you buy is compatible with assistive listening devices or that it has all of the functions you will need long term.
